Welcome to Highland Elementary School!
It is both my pleasure and privilege to work with the students, parents, staff, and church community of Highland and the surrounding area. We are determined to provide all the children at HES the best possible educational experience. I believe we are building futures that prepare students for this life and the life to come. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through the school office or you may email me at michael_cookenmaster@highlandpk8.org.
Students participate in the curriculum adopted by the North American Division (NAD) Office of Education of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In addition to the NAD curriculum, students are exposed to a higher rigor of standards-based education based on the Adventist Philosophy of Education. The Adventist Philosophy of Education has been in existence for 160 years. It is the forerunner of the Montessori Method and Vygotsky’s Constructivism, and has some distinct similarities to both approaches, while incorporating the “school of the prophets” model found in the scriptures. The Highland faculty, staff and school board are also deeply committed to becoming an Adventist Edge school.
Meeting the needs of each and every student is very important to us. We offer a variety of special services which include art, choir, gymnastics, physical education, piano, and students are able to take private instrumental lessons through our sister school, Highland Academy, a Christian, senior high school.
We welcome you to our school. If you would like your student(s) to attend Highland Elementary, please call my secretary, Diana Drusky, at (615) 325-3184, to make an appointment for us to talk and tour the school. We look forward to our partnership with you and your student(s).
In Christ Jesus,
Michael J. Cookenmaster
